Your LG TV gets a useful upgrade that you won’t find on any Samsung television

Some LG TV owners are set to receive an upgrade from today that will bring Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility to their televisions.

Although some other manufacturers already feature AirPlay, LG is boasting that it is the first global TV manufacturer to support HomeKit.

Once updated, LG 2019 AI TV owners will be able to stream content, via AirPlay, straight from their Apple devices to the televisions – this includes movies, music and podcast.

However, with HomeKit installed, there’s also the option to control the actual TV, with Apple’s app allowing you to turn on the power, change the volume and change the source of the content straight from your iPhone or iPad.

“LG remains at the forefront of TV technological innovation because of our never-ending quest to deliver the best home viewing experience,” said Brian Kwon, president LG Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies. “With Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, we are demonstrating our commitment to offering consumer benefits that go beyond just best-in-class picture quality.”

LG says that Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will begin rolling out to owners of LG OLED and NanoCell TVs in more than 140 countries starting this week, with the update continuing over the weeks to follow.

This LG news comes as Samsung recently announced the launch of the Apple TV app on its platform.

This means owners of its latest televisions can now access a swathe of content from one place.

It also brings any purchases you may have made on the iTunes service straight to your television without needing another streaming device such as an Apple TV.

What makes this even better is there’s now a massive amount of content available from Apple in full 4K HDR quality with any old purchases instantly upgraded to this better resolution for free.

As part of the TV app, you’ll also find a dedicated Kids section which highlights editorially handpicked shows and movies for children of all ages.

One final reason for downloading this app on your TV is what’s coming later this year.

Apple TV+ is expected to begin broadcasting original and exclusive content in the autumn.
