Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp drops fresh transfer hint in Mo Salah and Sadio Mane claim

Liverpool have only spent £1.3million after club bosses set their sights on keeping their current crop of players together rather than adding to their ranks.

Sepp van den Berg is the only player to make the move to Anfield in the current window and Klopp has been open about Liverpool’s thoughts on spending money.

“That’s actually our transfers, these are our transfers,” the German said when asked about his recent dealings.

“In our case it was [that] these are our transfers.

“These new contracts, keeping these boys here, was a strong, strong signal for the outside world. It’s a wonderful sign, to be honest.

“I like the fact that these boys are really in a good football age, they won this cup, which is good. It helps of course because it increases your basis.”

Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez pledged their futures to the club last season while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson followed in January.

Ahead of reports that Virgil van Dijk is about to commit to the cause, Klopp is happy that the European champions have made a conscious decision to stay away from the transfer market.

On the eve of the new Premier League season the former Borussia Dortmund boss has also revealed his targets in terms of silverware, and outlined his desire in following on from last year.

“The boys should be there again to make the next step. They are older and more experienced,” he said.

“I would be happy if we start at the similar level to last year. That would not be bad.

“There is space for improvement. It is easy to plan what you want to improve in the office.

“But then you miss three players or four others are not there and it becomes a theoretical part of football and you have to throw the plans in the bin so often, sometimes 10 minutes before a game.

“Stability, consistency, fighting for results. It is all important. Consistency on a high level is most important.

“If we can do that again it can be annoying playing against us and we must come again so they think when they play Liverpool or go to Anfield it is not fun.

“Last year was good and obviously we have not changed much.”
