The cheapest wine tasting holiday destination in the world revealed – did the UK feature?

Holidays and a half-drunk bottle of wine can spell heaven for some British travellers. Whether its a crisp glass of white with some fresh seafood at a beach bar, or a deeper, mulled red in a German market, booze often fits hand in hand with a break away. Yet for those Britons who love trying out the local tipple, help is at hand. Online travel company lastminute.com has picked out the world’s best – and cheapest – wine tours, with the location perhaps a little closer than you might think.

The travel brand put the spotlight on a total of 30 wine-producing regions all over the world.

While those areas such as Argentina, New Zealand and Australia might well spring to mind for tours, a trip within Europe came top.

Lastminute.com selected Italy as the best overall destination for wine tasting trips.

It also hailed the Mediterranean country as having the most wine tasting experiences, with 993 in total.

It also boasts 33 vineyards open to the public, so travellers can get a real genuine taste.

These came at the cheapest overall average price, too, when the average costs of flights, hotels and food was taken into account.

This who favour a glass of red will be in luck with the majority of regions in Italy producing this.

A handful specialise in sparkling wine, with Emilia Romagna specifically producing this type.

Though those who favour a sweet dessert wine may find themselves short-changed, with Tuscany the only Italian region to produce it.

For travellers fancy a trip to an Italian island, Sardinia boasts a nice balance of white and red wine producers.

Meanwhile, tipping the other end of the scale, the UK was ranked last place overall for wine tasting experiences.

France, Spain, South Africa and Portugal frequently interchanged policies in the top five.

Express.co.uk recently reported how Egypt had been hailed the best budget friendly destination in 2019 – with wine prices flagged in the survey.

The lastminute.com survey cited how travellers can buy a bottle of wine of just under £7, and coffee and beer for under £2.

What’s more, the average hotel room comes in at £13 and meals can be snapped up for an impressive £2.49 per person.
