Selma Blair health: Actress undergoes radical change amid Multiple Sclerosis treatment

Selma Blair, 47, was diagnosed with MS in August of last year. The Hellboy actress has since taken to Instagram to shed some light on her health and reveal her newly shaved head. She took to the picture-sharing site and posted a lengthy message alongside a photo of herself debuting her new look. In the snap she could be seen smiling away from the camera, leaning against a walking bike.

In view of her 1.7 million followers, she captioned the post: “Today is a banner day. I am being discharged from the care of an incredible team of nurses and techs and a visionary Dr. who believes in my healing as much as I do.

“This has been a process. And will continue to be one. I am immunocompromised for next three months at least. So no kisses please.”

She continued: “I wanted to make sure any complications that might arise here were my private space. And we got through brilliantly.

“I thank you all for your love and support and that extra dose of great with a @people cover. I see things so much more clearly now. And I am excited to share this journey when I am ready.”

Selma concluded: “For now, I have recovery. And a great @the_alinker_world so I gotta split. Bye!!!!!! This is the best gift I could give to [her son] Arthur. #newimmunesystem #whodis?”(sic)

Just a few hours earlier, she posted a photo of her son cutting her hair as she wished him happy birthday, and said it “makes tears well” that she couldn’t spend the day with him – due to, as she later shared, undergoing her final bout of treatment.

Multiple Sclerosis is a condition which can affect the brain and spinal cord and lead to symptoms which include problems with vision, pain, fatigue, muscle weakness and impaired co-ordination, according to the NHS.

Selma recently opened up about the impact of the condition on her body and admitted her vision has been affected.

Speaking to PEOPLE, she said: “I don’t see out of my right eye right now.”

The mother-of-one also addressed her vocal issues, saying: “My voice is like, you know when you were a child and you cried too much and you couldn’t get your breath after?

“So I’m not in pain, although it’s an effort, but it’s like a baby that’s so distraught that can’t get enough air,” she explained.

The Legally Blonde star did say, however, that she can “get it to settle” once in a while if she relaxes enough, or if she yells.

“If I yell I can push enough air out so I don’t have it.”

Speaking about the diagnosis last year, the Hollywood star admitted it was a relief to get the diagnosis.

She said: “For some people, the diagnosis is hard; for me, it was great.

Receiving the diagnosis, she added: “It stopped a lot of the self-loathing I had for my fatigue and confusion.”
