Thor 4 Love and Thunder theory: Natalie Portman sequel set in different MULTIVERSE reality

It was one of the biggest surprises at Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 movie slate reveal. While it had already leaked that Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi was returning to direct Thor 4, fans were amazed when Jane Foster star Natalie Portman walked on stage and was handed Mjolnir. Just like the comic book narrative, Jane has been found worthy of lifting the Asgardian hammer and will become the Mighty Thor. Just how this will fit in after Avengers Endgame is anyone’s guess since Jane was absent from Thor Ragnarok after breaking up with Thor.

It was here that Portman’s Jane was introduced in the MCU, so what if Thor: Love and Thunder sees her wield Mjolnir then instead of Thor?

Another piece of evidence to support this theory includes the fact that Thor joined the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers Endgame.

And James Gunn has confirmed that Thor: Love and Thunder is set before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which will hit cinemas in 2022 or 2023 as part of Marvel Phase 5.

It would certainly be odd for Thor to leave the Guardians for Thor: Love and Thunder and then rejoin them for Vol 3, as he’s expected to.

And for all fans know, Gunn meant Thor 4 was set before Guardians 3 because it’s set during the period of the first movie.

The only problem in this theory is that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is in Thor: Love and Thunder, a character not introduced until Thor Ragnarok.

Unless of course, she’s playing a younger version of her character?

Thor: Love and Thunder is released on November 5, 2021.
