Galaxy Watch could soon be dethroned by two new wearables

Galaxy Watch was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 9 back in August of last year – the long awaited successor to the Gear S3 arrived in 42 millimetre and 46 millimetre case sizes.

Samsung’s wearable was positioned as a capable all-rounder – providing users with the ability to view and interact with phone notifications while also offering a score of fitness features.

While the Galaxy Watch remains an incredibly appealing wearable choice, it seems it could soon be challenged by two new products.

The first could come from Samsung itself – the firm has been tipped to be planning the reveal of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 at its scheduled Unpacked hardware event on August 7.

Alleged images of the device have surfaced online from multiple sources – the device was shown to look very similar to the current Galaxy Watch Active but feature altered buttons on its side.

Wareable has claimed the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will come with a total of three models: one with LTE capabilities, another that is Bluetooth only and a third that features Under Armour branding.

The South Korean device was iterated to come in 40 millimetre and 44 millimetre case sizes, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Most notably though, it was declared the product will be capable of performing an electrocardiogram (ECG) – it has also been rumoured the Active 2 will be able to detect falls.

The former feature was said by Wareable to be waiting on FDA approval before its release, meaning it may not arrive until “some time in the first half of 2020”.

One of the sources added the Watch Active 2 is being positioned as “halfway between the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active”.

It is unclear what the price or release date of the device could be – however such details could be revealed on August 7.

In addition to a new Galaxy Watch Active, it seems Huawei could also be readying a new wearable.

GadgetsAndWearables recently noticed four new smartwatches from the firm had received certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

While details about the new products were scarce in the listing, the outlet speculated the quartet could be successors to Huawei’s Watch 2 series that launched back in 2017.

However, it is also possible the hardware could be an upgrade in some from to the Huawei Watch GT that launched alongside the firm’s Mate 20 Pro flagship last year and notably ditched Google’s Wear OS operating system in exchange for its own Light OS.

It is currently unclear when Huawei’s recently listed wearables will release, what operating system they will run and what the nuances of each model are.
