WWE SmackDown PREVIEW: SummerSlam update, Shawn Michaels return, Charlotte vs Ember Moon

SummerSlam challenge

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will issue an open challenge for SummerSlam tonight on SmackDown.

Kingston was called out by Samoa Joe, Elias and Randy Orton last week and they defeated him and his New Day team-mates Big E as well as Xavier Woods in a Six Man Tag Team Match.

The Dreadlocked Dynamo was pinned by Orton who is the most likely superstar to battle him at SummerSlam on August 11 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Shane McMahon addresses Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens took out WWE authority figure Shane McMahon with a Stunner for the third time in just two weeks last Tuesday.

Owens has been very critical of McMahon’s management as he insists he is hogging TV time from much more talented wrestlers.

Shane-O-Mac stated that he will address KO’s comments and attacks tonight after barring him from the arena last week.

The ex-SmackDown Commissioner may also respond to the former Universal Champion’s challenge for a match at SummerSlam.

Owens promised that if he loses to McMahon in the biggest event of the summer he will quit WWE.

Ember Moon vs Charlotte Flair

Ember Moon teamed up with SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley last week on SmackDown and defeated Mandy Rose as well as Sonya Deville in a Tag Team Match.

The Hugger then decided to give Moon a title shot at SummerSlam and the fight has been made official.

But first the challenger will have to overcome a huge obstacle as she will take on Charlotte Flair in what promises to be a gruelling match.

Shawn Michaels returns

Shawn Michaels will be joining Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves on the commentary team tonight on SmackDown.

Michaels is one of WWE’s greatest ever legends as he is a four-time world champion and holds victories over wrestling greats like The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, John Cena and many more.

The WWE Hall of Famer was part of RAW Reunion last Monday night where he reunited with D-Generation X team-mates Triple H, Road Dogg and X-Pac as well as fellow Kliq members Kevin Nash and Scott Hall who came to Seth Rollins’ aid.

Together they took out AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson of the OC.

Daniel Bryan announcement

Daniel Bryan promised to make a career-altering announcement last week but changed his mind and walked off stage.

Many expected that he would request a rematch for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships from The New Day, who gladly granted it for him and his partner Rowan.

However, Bryan didn’t seem interested in any of this.

WWE.com hinted that he may finally deliver his highly-anticipated announcement tonight, but he may instead continue hyping it up until SummerSlam.
