What Gareth Bale needs to do to save his career regardless of Real Madrid transfer choice

That’s the opinion of former Fulham forward Brian McBride.

Gareth Bale is teetering on the verge of leaving Real Madrid at the moment, after falling out with manager Zinedine Zidane.

The Welshman is on a mammoth £600,000-per-week contract until 2022, and is more than happy to see out the remainder of his deal regardless of whether he is included in the first team or not.

But Zidane is desperate to offload the winger, who he claims refused to play against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

However, after a verbal attack from Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett, Zidane admitted on Monday night that he could return to face Arsenal on Wednesday.

Madrid have offered Bale to a host of clubs, and reportedly have an offer on the table from an unnamed Chinese Super League team which would make him the highest paid player in the world on a whopping £1million-per-week.

But according to McBride, Bale needs to work on his attitude before making his next decision, otherwise it will all be for nothing.

“I just don’t understand what Gareth Bale is doing now,” he said on ESPN FC.

“Three years ago we were talking about him as one of the best players in the world, now we’re talking about him as a player struggling to find a club.

“The reason we’re hearing this is because he wants more money, or wants the amount of money he’s getting now.

“I know Zidane said he [Bale] understands and is ready to go, but it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to go, because he wants to get paid.

“It’s an easier situation for me, I think.

“For him, who along with his air quotes said he was sitting on the couch, so it doesn’t sound like there’s a lot of communication with regards to a solution, but hopefully he’s playing at a high level [soon].

“It doesn’t matter if he stays there or goes somewhere else and takes a payout, if he doesn’t have the desire to get back to the level he was at before, then it’s not going to be worthwhile for him, or for a different club to take him. I just don’t get it.”
