Tess Daly: 'They are excellent' Strictly Come Dancing host breaks silence on 2019 line-up

Tess Daly, 50, has been co-presenting Strictly Come Dancing since 2004, and now hosts alongside Claudia Winkleman.

The mother-of-two admitted she “can’t wait” for the upcoming series and to return to the studio again.

Tess, who is married to Vernon Kay, also revealed a detail about the line-up and insisted the people who will be competing are “excellent”.

Speaking about the new series with OK! Magazine, Tess spilled: “I can’t wait. I’m hearing it’s a really great line-up this year.

“I know a few of the names already and they are excellent!”

Despite having one of the most sought-after jobs in TV, Tess said her two daughters aren’t too impressed.

“My girls take it with a pinch of salt, because it’s always been that way,” she said.

“I was pregnant with Phoebe during the first series of Strictly, so she’s almost like a visual reference of how long we’ve been on air. She’s slightly taller than me now, though!”

Tess continued: “They don’t really bat an eyelid at what Vernon and I do, it’s just the norm. They’re not overly impressed by it.”

However, Tess revealed she did get some brownie points last year as her children were fans of YouTube sensation, Joe Sugg.

She said: “Let’s be honest, your parents are never cool when you’re a kid, Although they were pretty impressed by my job last year when Joe Sugg was on Strictly!

“They loved coming into work and getting to meet him.”

This year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing will feature a major difference as there will be a new judge.

Darcey Bussell quit earlier this year following seven years on the judging panel of the BBC One show.

Yesterday, it was announced Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse’s sister, Motsi Mabuse, will be taking over from Darcey.

Motsi is a former South African Champion and German Latin Champion in 2009 and 2010.

She has been a judge on Let’s Dance in Germany since 2011, after initially joining the show as a professional dancer in 2007.

Motsi said about the exciting news: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly judging panel.

“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show. I can’t wait to get started!”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.

Tess Daly’s full interview is in this week’s OK! Magazine, out now.
