Tesco have been forced to pull four flavours of their Tesco Finest Fruit Presse of the shelves due to fermentation. The issue is causing spoilage of the products, and may also cause the bottles to explode. Tesco have warned customers not to consume these drinks. The Food Standards Agency said on its website: “The products potentially present a risk to health because they have fermented and as a result pressure may have built up in the bottles which could cause them to explode.”
The products in question are the Tesco Finest Sparkling Valencia Orange & Passion Fruit Presse, the Finest Sicilian Lemon & Mint Presse, Finest Sicilian Lemon & Mint Presse and Finest Sicilian Lemon & Mint Presse.
Customers should look out for 750ml pack sizes, with the best before date of March 2020. All batches codes are said to be affected.
Tesco have put up point of sale notices explaining why these products are being recalled and advising their customers of what to do if they have bought them.
Customers should not drink the items, but instead return them to the store where it was bought for a full refund. No receipt is required for this.
Tesco have also issued an apology to customers, and customers who require any further assistance should call their customer service line on; 0800505555.
The FSA added: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
These are not the only supermarket recalls to happen in the last month.
Tesco, ASDA, Iceland, Sainsbury’s and several other stores recently issued warnings for several of the products over serious fears, including undeclared allergies, choking risks and salmonella.
One of these items is the 600g Yorkshire Provender rustic vegetable broth with kale, lentils and quinoa soup.
The item is currently sold in Ocado, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
The soup has a use-by date of July 8 and is being recalled because a ‘small number’ of pots have been packed with a different soup that contains milk, which is not declared on the packaging.
Another product is Iceland’s 20-pack of Crisy Chicken dippers.
The frozen food product has been taken off the shelf, as packets may contain plastic.
