Sky TV beaten as one of its biggest rivals reveals a blockbuster upgrade

Sky continues to offer one of the most complete and comprehensive television experiences on the market.

Its Sky Q technology brings the ability to watch and record more content than ever before and many shows, movies and sporting events are now available in full 4K ultra HD resolution.

There’s also the recent addition of Netflix to the platform which means viewers can now switch to this popular streaming service straight from their Sky Q box.

However, despite all of these features, there is now something Sky users can’t do that one of its biggest rivals can.

Virgin Media has just announced that millions of its subscribers can now view Amazon Prime Video content from their V6 set-top box.

Virgin already offers Netflix built-in to its service and content will now be boosted even further by this announcement.

Along with a large movie collection, Prime Video includes a wealth of critically-acclaimed Amazon Originals like the recently-launched Good Omens, starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, The Grand Tour, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as well as movies, plus the live and exclusive 2019/20 Premier League football games.

Later this year, Prime will show 20 live Premier League games including the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton and Manchester United vs Tottenham.

Speaking about the update David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said: “Giving our customers the telly they love in one place is at the heart of what we do. This is why, from today, Prime members or those subscribing directly to Prime Video with a V6 box will have seamless access to a huge array of blockbuster entertainment – from Amazon Originals like Good Omens and The Grand Tour to thousands of TV series and movies.

“Virgin TV brings the best programming together so our customers can enjoy top-class entertainment and sport when and how they want. Alongside our leading ultrafast broadband, it’s the best way to watch the best TV.”

It is worth noting that although Prime is now available on Virgin it’s not free and you will need to subscribe to the service to view what it has to offer.

There’s no word whether Sky will follow with its own announcement on Prime Video but it’s unlikely that the firm will want to be left behind in this competitive market.
