Harry Redknapp, 72, speaks out on ‘tricky’ moment with wife Sandra ‘I did get through’

Harry Redknapp wed his wife Sandra Harris back in 1967 after the pair met as teenagers, and they went on to have two sons: Jamie and Mark. However, long before starting a family, the football manager and his spouse had to overcome a “tricky” obstacle while dating. The 72-year-old revealed all in a new interview with The Guardian, in which he admitted that without the sport for which he is famous, he’d be a docker. During the chat, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner shared a complication that was undoubtedly very awkward at the time.

“By the age of 15 I was playing for West Ham’s youth team in front of 30,000 people, but things were very different then,” Harry started.

“I met Sandra, but we didn’t have a phone so it was tricky staying in touch.”

Thankfully there was one way he could speak to his future wife, but it was far from private.

He continued: “I had to go up to the phone box round the corner, but that was usually broken.

“If I did get through, her parents had a party line that they shared with people across the road, so everybody could hear everybody else’s conversations.”

Harry went on to gush about his other half, crediting her for everything.

He added: “If I hadn’t met Sandra, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She worked in the hairdressers in Barking when I met her, and we started going out.

“We’ve honestly never had a cross word, even when I accidentally ran her over in the car and totally mangled her ankle.”

It was back in 2016 that Sandra was left seriously injured after an accident in their Range Rover.

The Sun reported at the time that she “yelled in pain” as she fell to the ground in Bournemouth.

He is said to have been dropping her off at the shops at the time, when she got her coat and foot caught.

He previously told the BBC: “It was just a freak accident you know.

“Sandra went across the road and unfortunately she had gone behind the car to cross over the road and as I went to drive off I drove over her ankle.

Harry also said: “Its lucky, if the full weight of the car had gone over the ankle god knows what would have happened to her. We’re OK.

“She had an operation on her ankle that went well.”

Meanwhile, it comes after Jamie Redknapp revealed who “completes” him alongside a sun-drenched snap.
