Mate 20 Pro could be set for its biggest Huawei update ever

Huawei Mate 20 Pro remains one of the best Android flagships on the market for everything it does right.

The device was unveiled back in October last year and shook the smartphone industry with its triple camera system, staggering battery life and great performance.

Mate 20 Pro launched running Android 9 Pie with Huawei’s own EMUI 9.0 software running on top.

The device is currently in the process of receiving EMUI 9.1, a upgraded version of the skin that comes with a number of improvements such as increased read performance, optimised gaming features and a simplified settings menu.

Huawei has declared the Mate 20 Pro should receive the software, that debuted on the P30 Pro earlier this year, by the end of July this year.

However, it seems an even bigger upgrade could be coming to the device.

Huawei recently announced it will be holding a developer conference at the Dongguan Basketball Centre in China on August 9 – the schedule for the event mentions EMUI 10.

In particular, it declared a keynote will be given by the firm’s President of Consumer Business Software, Wang Chenglu, who will discuss the new software.

When translated, the page suggests EMUI 10 could be released on the day of the developer conference.

If accurate, the new update would surely debut for the Mate 20 Pro either on the day or at a point in the future.

EMUI 10 is the forthcoming version of Huawei’s Android skin that is anticipated to run over Google’s forthcoming Android Q operating system expected to release in August.

The Mate 20 Pro stands as the only Huawei phone that is currently involved in the Android Q beta.

The Chinese tech giant has also confirmed the Mate 20 Pro has “already been given approval to receive Android Q as and when it is released by Google”.

If Huawei does release EMUI 10 on August 9, it is possible Google could also launch Android Q for its Pixel devices on the same day.

However, it is worth noting this has not been confirmed in any capacity by either firm.

Ahead of its release, XDA Developers recently claimed it had managed to test out EMUI 10 on a P30 Pro device.

The software was shown to look minimally different to Huawei’s current EMUI 9.1 software.

However, the outlet noted new permissions were present, giving more users control over when their location information is harnessed by apps.

It is also anticipated EMUI 10 will include a swathe of features set to debut in Google’s Android Q such as improved notifications, new gestures and other handy functions such as Live Caption.
