Eleanor Tomlinson: ‘I don’t feel sad’ Poldark star makes surprising admission about show

Eleanor Tomlinson, 27, opened up about her reaction to wrapping the final series of Poldark after starring in the programme alongside Aidan Turner, 36, for the past five years. The British actress secured the role of Demelza when she was just 21-years-old. Eleanor recently described the conclusion of the BBC drama as a “bittersweet” experience. However, the star admitted she doesn’t “feel sad” about leaving her character behind.

“It sounds corny, but I don’t see it as a goodbye. We have to edit, do the post production, then there’ll be screenings.”

Eleanor went on to reveal she is already planning out reunions with the cast and crew.

She added: “And also, because we’re best mates. I’ll see the actors and crew again, so it doesn’t feel like goodbye,

“More like, ‘See you on the next project or in the pub for a glass of wine rather than a wet Cornish clifftop.’ Maybe I won’t be wearing a corset.”

The Demelza actress also addressed the palpable on-screen chemistry between herself and Aidan Turner, who plays her husband Ross Poldark.

She divulged to the publication: “You can’t name what it is that Aidan and I had.

“It was just there from the first screen test. There’s a lot of love between us and a lot of respect.

“I’ve spent every day for six months with him for the past five years… you do form this bond.”

In spite of this admission, Eleanor previously spoke out about rowing with her co-star on set.

During an interview with Red Magazine in 2018, she spilled: “We’re great mates, although we do row. [We row about] everything – usually our characters.

“We’re both ridiculously protective of them and squabble like an old married couple.

“Usually it’s one of us saying that our character wouldn’t behave a certain way.”

She continued: “Aidan loves everything being his [character’s]. But then he loves to wind me up.”

Elsewhere, Eleanor took to Instagram to share a funny before and after snap of herself and Aidan after experimenting with the FaceApp challenge.

In view of her 125,000 followers, she shared a photo of the pair in character looking much older, as she jokingly added the caption: “Before and after filming 5 series…”

Poldark continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
