8.40am UPDATE: Arsenal blasted over William Saliba

Arsenal are not in a position where they can loan players back after signing them, claims former Gunners hero Perry Groves.

“They’re in for William Saliba from Saint-Etienne, the 18-year-old,” Groves said on talkSPORT.

“It’s £26m, they’re going to loan him back for a season.

“Arsenal aren’t in that position at the moment where you can loan players back. We need players to play now.

“If you were Liverpool or Man City, you’re in that privileged position then to think about next season or the season after. We need these players now.

“I know it’s going to be stage payments, but I want all of the budget going on players now that are going to come and make an impact in out first team.”

8.20am UPDATE: Steve Bruce has message for Newcastle fans

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has assured Magpies supporters that he will be in charge of transfers, despite doubts over the 58-year-old’s appointment.

“There have been a couple of things said – and the big one is whether I am going to sit here and be a puppet,” he said.

“That won’t happen – I am in charge of transfers. To say I won’t be in charge of recruitment has insulted me.

“Let me tell you, if I thought I couldn’t have control of transfers, then I wouldn’t be doing the job.

“We’ve talked about budgets and it was pretty straight forward.

“I think Mike has always been pretty straight about that – whatever the club brings in and whatever we generate by getting players out, we’ve got to spend.

“Our transfer policy is like most other clubs. Identifying the players and making sure we fit in.”

8am UPDATE: Zinedine Zidane gives Paul Pogba transfer update

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane believes the club has a plan to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, despite being told by club president Florentino Perez that a deal would be very difficult.

Zidane suggested on Friday that Madrid are preparing to test United’s will with a bid, saying that he will have to wait to see what happens.

“We have to respect things, with the club we know what we want and what can happen until the 31st [sic] we can make changes, departures and also that they can come,” he said.

“I will not go into that. You have to respect some things.

“We have a plan with the club and we’ll see what happens.

“But today we are focused on tomorrow’s game.

“What happens next will already be seen. You know many things, but we will see. Lots of things can happen.”

7am UPDATE: Liverpool backed to sign Christian Eriksen

Tottenham contract rebel Christian Eriksen would fit nicely into Liverpool’s midfield, according to Dean Saunders.

“[They could] spend it maybe,” Saunders said of Liverpool’s transfer budget.

“I think Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team, somebody like Eriksen.

“That type of player who will make their midfield a bit more productive.”

6.30am UPDATE: Arsenal handed Wilfried Zaha update

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson fully expects Wilfried Zaha to stay at the club despite interest from Arsenal.

“He has not spoken to me. I don’t know if he’s spoken to the club [asking to leave],” said Hodgson.

“As far as I’m concerned, he is coming back, he is our player and I’ve been given no information that the club is interested in selling him at the moment.

“I’m just expecting him back, looking forward to working with him and seeing some of the things he can do for us.

“I think he has got another 10 days or another week of holiday.

“I think he is back after we play Bristol City and before we play Hertha Berlin – that gives him his three weeks off.

“If he wants to come back earlier we will be very happy to see him.”
