The Walking Dead has seen the pillars of its TV show fall by the wayside throughout the past few seasons.
Alongside losing Carl Grimes (played by Chandler Riggs), viewers also saw the mysterious exit of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) during season nine.
Unfortunately this left Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) as some of the few original members.
Last year, shortly after season nine finished, news broke that Danai would be leaving the show during the latest season, however reports were never confirmed.
This weekend saw the arrival of San Diego Comic Con, and with it The Walking Dead’s panel for the upcoming season 10.
During the panel Danai announced: “I can confirm this will be my final season on this amazing TV show as Michonne,” as reported by Digital Spy.
She went on to add: “I’d just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role, and to be amongst these people, and those that are not here right now, and amongst all of you.
“I am very, very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t express right now.
“I will say that my heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The beauty of this show is that TWD Family is forever.”
Since beginning her mainstream career on The Walking Dead, Danai has since become a huge piece of the Marvel puzzle in both Black Panther and Avengers.

Roles such as these factored into her wanting to venture away from The Walking Dead and into new work, she told the Comic Con audience.
Finally, she reiterated: “The connection between us never ends and that’s what keeps me going with the decision I made.
“It was a very difficult one, and it’s not connected to my heart. My heart stays right here.
“It was about a calling, and an essence, and other things I feel called to.”
However this may not be the end of Michonne entirely, as further rumours have suggested she will crossover to the upcoming Rick Grimes movies.
Shortly before Danai’s announcement the new trailer for season ten was shown off, teasing a huge confrontation in the coming episodes.
Carol (Melissa McBride) has seen a lot of action during her time on the show, but the trailer seems to be pushing her towards all out war with Alpha (Samantha Morton).
The trailer depicts Carol confiding in Daryl, asking: “Ever wonder if this is all there is?”
To which Daryl responds: “Sometimes I wonder if we’re living just one fight to the next. No more fighting. Just get on the bike and go.”
But the next scene showed Carol going deep into Whisperer territory, leaving her fate in the air.
The Walking Dead season 10 premieres October 7 on FOX in the UK.
