Sophie Countess of Wessex and Kate Middleton: Are the two royals friends?

Sophie, Countess of Wessex joined the Royal Family in 1999, following her marriage to Prince Edward – the Queen’s youngest son. Several years later in 2011, Kate Middleton married the Queen’s grandson Prince William, and they’ve been together ever since. As well as being married to Edward and William, both Sophie and Kate play very vital roles within the Royal Family. On the official Royal Family website, Sophie is described as: “A full-time working member of the Royal Family, The Countess of Wessex splits her time between her work in support of The Queen and visits to a large number of her own charities and organisations. She has a wide range of interests which include supporting people with disabilities, the prevention of blindness in developing countries, agriculture and fashion.”

Kate is referred to similarly, with the site reading:“The Duchess devotes her time to supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life.

So with the ladies both being members of the Royal Family, are they friends?

From their dress sense, to their humble beginnings there’s no denying the women have a lot in common.

Passion for fashion

Both women have a very strong interest in fashion.

In February 2018, they were seen chatting to designer Stella McCartney at Buckingham Palace.

All three women attended the The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange Reception at Buckingham Palace, and Kate and Sophie are both patrons of various fashion charities.

Kate comes from a working-class background of coal miners and builders. Her mother Carole worked as an air hostess, and her father was an airline dispatcher before they founded a mail-order goods company in 1987, which made them very wealthy. Their newfound wealth helped put Kate and her siblings Pippa and James through boarding school.

In 2001, Kate met William at the University of St. Andrews.

They’re mothers

Kate and Sophie have motherhood in common. Sophie is mum to Lady Louise Windsor, 15, and James, Viscount Severn, 11.

Kate and Prince William have three children – Prince George, who turns six on 22 July, Princess Charlotte, three and one-year-old Prince Louis.

Sophie’s daughter Lady Louise was also bridesmaid at Kate Middleton’s wedding.
