Stranger Things season 4: Is Hopper really dead? Will he return?

Season three of Stranger Things finished on a shocking note after fan-favourite Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) appeared to have been killed off. Hopper seemed to perish while trying to close the rift to the Uspdie Down underneath the Starcourt Mall in Hawkins. He was left trapped in a Russian laboratory that exploded as he tried to seal the Gate between the two dimensions.

There’s been much speculation he will be returning after season three featured a post-credits scene that, ade reference to a character known simply as “the Russian”.

Stranger Things fans were sent wild by the speculation that Hopper could be alive and somehow have miraculously survived the explosion and been taken by the Russians.

There have also been theories that Hopper could have jumped into the rift in a last-ditch bid to survive and found himself transported to Russia.

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF STRANGER THINGS?

Others have suggested The American could be Dr Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) or even Eight or Kali Prasad (Linnea Berthelsen).

Express.co.uk spoke to bookmakers Betfair and Betway about the chances of Hopper still being alive.

Betfair has given evens of Hopper returning in season four of Stranger Things.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3 ENDING EXPLAINED

Meanwhile, Betway has odds of 4/11 that Hopper is dead while they say there is a 2/1 chance he’s alive, suggesting the company thinks he could be back.

“Stranger Things fans are still reeling from the death of Jim Hopper at the end of series three, but rumours have surfaced that we might not have seen the last of the police chief,” Betway’s Alan Alger exclusively told Express.co.uk.

He added: “He still looks likely to be confirmed dead at 4/11, but given the complexities of the Stranger Things’ storylines, we aren’t ruling out Hopper returning at 2/1.”

He went on to say to Entertainment Tonight: “I mean that, of course, is my hope too. It seems pretty crazy though.

WHO IS IN THE CAST OF STRANGER THINGS?

“You know, that machine went off and blew up and Hopper seemed to be trapped there.

“He did glance around a little bit, but he seemed to be trapped and the machine exploded.

“And then you cut to, what was it? It starts with a ‘K’ or something – some town in Russia, right? Where there’s some American and there’s some other prisoner.”

DID STAR LET SLIP HOPPER PLOT DETAILS?

“I don’t know, I mean it seems strange. I don’t know how though,” the star added.

Harbour has also been hinting at clues on his Instagram account after he changed profile picture from a number six to an eight which alluded to Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) phone number 1 (618) 625-8313.

Some diehard fans have called the number which leads to a voicemail that teases Hopper’s fate once more.
