Kara Tointon: Former EastEnders actress speaks out on ‘frightening’ moment with her baby

Kara Tointon, 35, who played Dawn Swann in the BBC series EastEnders, welcomed her first child with her fiancé, Marius Jensen last year. The Strictly Come Dancing winner has since opened about the birth of her son Frey where she revealed it did not go exactly to plan. The mother-of-one explained her son was born on his due date in November last year but she ended up having to undergo an emergency C-section when her baby’s heartbeat dropped after 58 hours of labour. Speaking in an interview with Hello! magazine in December, Kara said the whole episode was “quite dramatic”.

She told the publication: “Like everything in life, what you expect to happen, more often than not, doesn’t. It did become quite dramatic and a bit frightening.

“I was in an episode of ER at that point. It all happened incredibly quickly.”

Kara continued: “There is a nine-month build and then you meet your baby and instantly they are engraved in your mind.

“Suddenly you know them deeper than anyone while having only just met.”

The actress certainly seems to be enjoying motherhood as she described baby Frey as a “pretty cool dude”.

She gushed: “He’s a pretty cool dude, very chilled, sometimes he just lies there and stares at me.”

Meanwhile, the Strictly winner has another reason to celebrate as she was announced to be joining the cast of The Man In The Full White Suit.

The production will play a three-week run at Theatre Royal Bath before transferring to London’s West End.

Kara is playing the role of Daphne Burnley and is joined by British actor Stephen Mangan.

The small-screen star recently took to Instagram to share the exciting news with her 101,000 followers.

She uploaded a teaser of the stage play and captioned the post: “@whitesuitcomedy @dmtwestend THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT 26th Oct 2019 – 11th Jan 2020 Wyndham’s Theatre.”

Fans flocked to comment on the news, as one person said: “Yes! Cannot wait to see you back on stage!”

Another person commented: “Might have to come see you.”

A third person added: “We look forward to seeing you on stage!”

Elsewhere, Kara will be taking part in the Channel 4 show The Crystal Maze which sees five celebrity contestants take on a host of mystery challenges, in the hope of winning crystals that can be exchanged for time in the iconic Crystal Dome.

The Crystal Maze airs tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
