James Bond: Poldark star to replace Daniel Craig as iconic spy? Aidan Turner odds trimmed

Aidan Turner returned to screens last week in the hit show Poldark – and this month his odds have had a subtle trim.

At the start of the month, Oddschecker’s records show that Marathon Bet cut his James Bond chances down to 8/1, while he’s currently on 12/1 with Ladbrokes and William Hill, and 16/1 with Betfair.

By Marathon Bet’s listings, that puts the 36-year-old inside the Top 10 frontrunners.

Currently Richard Madden remains at the front of the pack with 5/2 chances, closely followed by Tom Hiddleston on 3/1.

Cillian Murphy is next on 4/1, alongside James Norton; while Tom Hardy and Idris Elba are both on 5/1.

After Damien Lewis on 6/1, we have Turner and Benedict Cumberbatch on 8/1. Henry Cavill rounds off the Top 10 on 9/1.

Other contenders hovering include Jack Lowden on 16/1, Jamie Bell on 20/1 and Michael Fassbender on 25/1.

In Bond 25 – which still does not have an official title – reports suggest Craig’s Bond will find out that he has been replaced in the iconic 007 position by Nomi, played by Lashana Lynch.

Whether or not Lynch will continue to have a presence in the Bond franchise when it’s rebooted post-Craig remains to be seen, but will the spy get his 007 job title back?

Back to Turner, and the TV star spoke out last year on his chances of becoming the successor to the likes of Craig, Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton.

“There’s someone else playing the role at the moment, but when it’s free I’ll have a look at it,” he told the Daily Mail in 2018.

Back in April, Craig spoke of wanting to leave the franchise on a high note.

“When I came to the franchise it was in pretty good shape and I need to leave it in pretty good shape,” he said.

“That’s all I want to do. So the next person is picking up the baton.”

Pressed on whether Bond 25 is definitely his finale, he smiled: “Maybe” – quickly adding definitively: “Yeah, no, it is.”

Bond 25 is out on April 8, 2020.
