Meanwhile, the BBC Radio Wales presenter opened up about an emotional moment she experienced as a young child.

Speaking to her co-host Owain Wyn Evans, the mathematician revealed she and her mother had moved out of her stepfather’s home for the circus but she left with one particular item which broke her mother’s heart.

Carol told listeners: “This bear called Bunji. He’s quite pink.

“When my mum left my stepfather for the first time, when she ran way to the circus with me and Bunji came.”

She continued: “And we were in this awful place with a broken window opposite Leicester prison. I think I was nine then. We were staying in there and she said, ‘It broke her heart because I said Bunji hadn’t got a home anymore’.

“And she thought, ‘Oh God I’ve got to do something to get out of this situation’.”
