Kyoto fire: Blaze ravages anime studio killing 'several' with more than 40 injured

According to reports, “several” people been confirmed dead. Police have confirmed that blaze took place at 10.30am local time (1.30am BST). Police also stated that a man spread an unspecified liquid which caused the fire.

The man, who was in his 40s was among the injured and was taken to hospital.

As well as the “several” fatalities, reports have stated that there have been more than 40 injuries.

Among the injuries, it has been reported that several are of a serious nature.

The three-storey building is home to Kyoto Animation.

The company is well-known for producing the popular TV animation series, “K-On!!” and “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”.

Residents told local media that they had heard an explosion in the building before they then spotted the blaze.

It is thought that there were an estimated 70 workers in the building at the time.

Approximately 30 fire engines were called to the scene to deal with the fire.

The fire in Kyoto comes after several people were injured after a warehouse blaze Takatsuki.

Three were men were taken to hospital with severe injuries.

Speaking at the time, a man who worked nearby said: “The windows and plates broke as we heard the blast.

“We hurried outside and saw flames shooting three to four meters high, and the air filled with black smoke.”

Shingo Kubode, 46, also said: “We were eating dinner when there was a large noise and we felt a large shake as if there was an earthquake.”
