Kate Middleton used her wedding tiara to reveal influential role in the Royal Family

Kate Middleton has been a popular member of the Royal Family since she married Prince William. The pair wed at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011 and she became the Duchess of Cambridge. The royal is mum to Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one. Kate took on an important role at her wedding, and used her choice of jewellery to reveal how she would become an influential royal.

Prince William is second in line to the throne and it is likely he will one day become King, which would give Kate the important task of being Queen Consort.

At her wedding, Kate chose to wear a design by Sarah Burton from the fashion house, Alexander McQueen.

Although she ensured the custom gown had a modern twist, Kate wanted her dress to have some traditional elements which linked to her future important role within the family.

The Victorian style dress had a fitted lace bodice and full skirt and she paired the look with a tiara from the royal collection.

When Kate married the future King, she opted for the Cartier Halo tiara which had lots of history.

The wedding tiara chosen by the Duchess had been in the family since it was created in 1936.

It was seeped in tradition as Prince William’s great grandfather, the Duke of York, had given it to his wife before they became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

By picking this, Kate showed her commitment to her new role and also paved the way for being an influential royal.

“In choosing the Cartier Halo tiara for her wedding, Kate established a new generation of royals,” Tobias Kormind, Managing Director of 77Diamonds.com told Express.co.uk.

“While the history of the Cartier Halo tiara began with a love story, it was not a tiara associated with ceremonial occasions of the past.

“It had hardly been seen in public at all and it was therefore a more personal jewel, giving Kate the space to stake her own claim on her new role.”

At her wedding, Kate also made a statement as she chose to have a second dress, which she changed into for the reception.

The satin gown was also designed by Sarah Burton and featured a sweetheart neckline.

It had large diamond detailing around the waistline and she paired to with a cropped cardigan.

Her grand wedding was thought to cost millions and no expense was spared on her the flower arrangements.

William and Kate were reported to have spent £800,000 on flowers for the big day.
