Thor 4 CONFIRMED with Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi: But will ‘Fat Thor’ return?

Two years ago Thor Ragnarok delighted and surprised Marvel fans. Following the dark, dull Thor: The Dark World, Hemsworth had reinvented his Asgardian god. This was partly thanks to the creative genius and comedy improvisational skills of Taika Waititi, who directed the colourful threequel. Clearly, Thor’s character has developed exponentially, with his comic relief controversially extending to letting himself go in Avengers Endgame.

With such a popular reboot of Thor in Ragnarok and Endgame, it would be a shame to stop his story there, and now it’s been confirmed that Thor 4 is on the way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thor Ragnarok’s Waititi will return to direct and no doubt Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie – now Queen of Asgard – will be back, as the star teased in April.

So just where could Thor 4 go? Well, the last we saw of Hemsworth’s Asgardian was leaving Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers Endgame.

Fans have since speculated that he will star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, continuing as “Fat Thor”, or his official title “Bro Thor”.

But with Thor 4 now on the way, maybe he’ll only cameo in that movie.

There’s also the possibility that the movie is really focused on Valkyrie, with Thor as a co-star.

This would certainly be in line with Marvel Studios’ promised diversity push, following a first decade of movies dominated by white male superhero solo movies.

Whatever the case, the big question is whether Hemsworth’s character will remain “Fat Thor” or not. No doubt either keeping or changing him will be controversial among fans.
