Michael, 27, broke Love Island fans’ hearts when he decided to recouple with Joanna Chimonides, 22, just as his former partner Amber Gill, 21, returned from Casa Amor a couple of weeks ago.
Amber was seen struggling with her conflicting feelings for Michael in light of the recoupling on the ITV dating show, confiding in the other girls she still really liked the firefighter.
At the beginning of this week’s dose of villa drama, Amber finally admitted to Michael she still had feelings for him, despite him being in a couple with Joanna.
Heartbreak was soon on the horizon once more when Michael was chosen to stay in the villa after a shock dumping twist saw Joanne booted off the show and with the firefighter deciding to stay and not leave with her, things were left frosty between the young lovers.
Following Joanna’s exit, Michael made it bluntly clear to Amber he was still interested in pursuing a relationship with the dumped islander once their summer of love had ended.
Amber admitted to the other girls in last night’s episode things between her and Michael were finally done and dusted, but it seems the firefighter has been harbouring undisclosed feelings.
The last moments of last night’s show saw Amber head for a date with newcomer Greg O’Shea, 24, a motion which will seem to leave Michael questioning his feelings for his former lover.
In the first look from tonight’s episode in the aftermath of Amber’s date, Michael confides in some of the other boys about his dilemma.
“Now Joanna’s gone, it’s given me time to kind of think about things and like I’ve realised, yeah I do like Amber,” Michael confesses.
Fair to say, the boys are left more than shocked after the firefighter has made it known on a number of occasions he had no intention of reuniting with Amber.

“If you did go back there, things would be so much more different,” Michael’s fellow islander Jordan Hames, 24, tells his friend.
The firefighter then admits: “I feel I need to do myself a favour and let her know.”
With Michael back tracking on weeks worth of heartbreak he caused Amber, will the strong willed islander fall for his charms or will she be the one leaving her former lover devastated?
Amber’s mother Vanessa Waugh appeared on This Morning earlier today and revealed exactly what she thought about the relationship between her daughter and Michael.
Asked whether the pair could reunite, Vanessa said: “I don’t think she’ll go back with him, I hope she doesn’t.”
Amber’s mother continued: “Because of the whole way I think he’s played it. He hasn’t been upfront with her.
“He’s been a little bit holding himself back, I don’t know whether he’s playing a little bit of a game.”
Whilst the drama continues to unravel between Michael and Amber, it seems current frontrunners Tommy Fury, 20, and Molly-Mae Hague, 20, have some stiff competition for the crown.
The pair are currently the way at 1-3 in bookmakers Betway’s latest odds, but just shy of first place is new couple Curtis Pritchard, 23, and Maura Higgins, 28.
After the duo finally gave into their feelings for one another, Curtis and Maura are standing strong at 5/1.
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
