Arsenal fans all make the same joke after Mesut Ozil debuts surprise blonde look

The German midfielder is currently with the Arsenal squad in America for pre-season, as the Gunners prepare to compete in the International Champions Cup.

Mesut Ozil’s future is unclear, however, as speculation continues to link him with a move away from the club.

Since joining Arsenal in 2013, Ozil has gone hot and cold for the club when it matters, and has been tipped to finally leave this transfer window.

The attacking midfielder scored five times with just two assists in 24 Premier League games last season, a disappointing return given his lofty wage.

Ozil is Arsenal’s highest-paid player on a hefty £350,000-per-week, but has been accused by fans of going missing in big games.

And after he debuted his new blonde hair, Arsenal fans flocked to Twitter to make the same joke.

One posted: “Maybe we’ll know when he’s playing or not now.”

“He also gone missing,” another joked.

One simply replied: “Gone missing.”

“Only thing his done for the past two years,” one said.

“Still going to go missing in big games,” another posted.

One fan joked: “Only thing that could make him noticeable on the field.”

Arsenal had been linked with a move for Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech this summer, and former player Marc Overmars even advised the team to sell Ozil and replace him with the Turkish star.

Ziyech scored 21 goals and gave 24 assists for Ajax last season, but the Dutch champions are yet to receive any offers for him, despite having a relatively low release clause of £31.5million.

“I am a bit surprised that it is still so quiet around Hakim,” Overmars told Voetbal International.

“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that.

“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him. I think Hakim Ziyech is better than Mesut Ozil.

“I would say sell him (Ozil) and you will get Hakim for half. But they (Arsenal) didn’t listen to me. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.”
