Fortnite update 9.40 PATCH NOTES: Tactical Shotgun, downtime news, Cattus v Doggus event

UPDATE: Fortnite update 9.40 has been officially announced by Epic Games, complete with server downtime news.

Update 9.40 will be available to download from 9am UK time on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. This is the same time servers will go offline for maintenance.

Remaining update 9.40 patch notes will be revealed once the update goes live.

ORIGINAL: Fortnite update 9.40 is about to be released by Epic Games.

With Season 9 coming to an end, Epic Games is gearing up to release one final update.

The new update is expected to launch on Wednesday, July 17, although the erratic update schedule means it could also launch on July 18.

Regardless of the date, fans can expect the update to launch alongside a period of server downtime at around 9am UK time.

Considering the size of the update and how long it’s been since the previous one, the downtime will almost certainly last for around two hours.

According to the early patch notes, update 9.40 will introduce new versions of the Tactical Shotgun weapon.

As part of the new update, the Tactical Shotgun will now come in Epic and Legendary variants.

“Get up close and personal with the new Epic and Legendary variants of the Tactical Shotgun!” reads the in-game newsfeed.

As confirmed when the countdown clock appeared last weekend, Epic Games will also introduce the assets and game files for the end of season gameplay event.

The clock – which has appeared above Neo Tilted – is ticking down to the start of the event on July 20 at 7pm UK time.

When the clock strikes zero, fans can expect the giant robot and huge monster (rumoured to be named Cattus and Doggus) to do battle within the game.

It’s likely the colossal beasts will destroy certain points of interest in time for the big Season 10 map update.

The giant robot recently started to take shape in the Pressure Plant factory, while the giant monster has been seen in the water surrounding the island.

Needless to say, update 9.40 will also make some much needed bug fixes in time for the end of the season.

According to the Epic Trello board, style challenges from past seasons are appearing, even though they’ve been completed.

Other problems with imminent fixes include an issue stopping players from picking up items.

Traps, meanwhile, are sometimes invisible to players after becoming hidden in ceilings.

Finally, Epic is said to have a fix for a problem in which rings aren’t appearing for Fortbytes 4, 67, 70 and 89.

Check back later this week for the full list of Fortnite 9.40 patch notes.
