Young 'Lion King' actors had Beyoncé-size shoes to fill

The young actors in the new “The Lion King” have been waiting for what feels like a lifetime for the movie to come out.

Shahadi Wright Joseph was 11 years old when she was cast to voice young Nala. JD McCrary who would play young Simba was only 8.

That was three years ago. The big budget reimagining of the animated classic is finally hitting theaters nationwide Thursday night.

The young actors didn’t have extensive film resumes, but they both had some key connections.

Shahadi has played young Nala in the Broadway production. JD collaborated with Donald Glover, who plays adult Simba, on the Childish Gambino song “Terrified” in 2016.
