What Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working on in training ahead of new season

That’s according to United youngster Angel Gomes, who is out on tour with the Red Devils in Australia at the moment.

United came out on top in their latest pre-season game against Perth Glory with a 2-0 win.

Gomes, who featured in the game, said after that the win partly came as a result of the rigorous pressing routine that Solskjaer has been putting the team through in training.

“Everything that you saw in the game is what we’ve been practising,” he told MUTV.

“We’ve been working hard, trying to get the front-foot press and trying to create and score as many goals as possible.

”We’ve got very quick, direct and pacy players and we tried to press, stay high, get everyone locked up.

“We did that so we would create more chances, win the ball up higher and try to dominate the game.”

Gomes also took the time to speak on new signing Daniel James, who the club bought for £18m from Swansea.

“As you’ve seen, he’s got a lot of pace but he’s also smart – he knows when to go one vs one,” he added.

“He’s a very good lad, he gets on well with the boys and we’re happy he’s here.”

Solskjaer had noted toward the end of the season that he was planning on putting his players through the paces this summer in preparation for the new campaign.

“There is a big summer ahead for us. I want the players and staff to have a good holiday and come back refreshed and recharged because we are all going to work our socks off from the moment we get back to pre-season training,” the Norwegian said.

“There will be some changes in personnel but whoever is here we need to see a fitter, sharper, hungrier Manchester United next season.

“Yes there is a long road ahead of us but we have to relish the challenges that face us.”

United endured a difficult end to last season, ultimately missing out on Champions League football.
