Hand luggage: Emirates cabin bag rules explained as airline reveals secret to extra space

Emirates customers are privy to “one of the world’s most generous baggage policies” claims the international airline, who are competing with the likes of British Airways for their UK customers. Previously, Express.co.uk has honed in on the cabin baggage allowances from British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet travellers. Yet with Emirates, the airline hints such requirements depend on one simple thing. This is the class of travel passengers pay for, whether this be economy or First Class.

The advice states: “Generally, the amount of cabin baggage you may bring depends on which service class you are flying.”

It added: “First Class and Business Class customers are permitted two pieces of carry-on baggage: one briefcase plus either one handbag or one garment bag.

“The briefcase may not exceed 18 by 14 by eight inches (45 by 35 by 20 cm); the handbag may not exceed 22 by 15 by eight inches (55 by 38 by 20 cm) and the garment bag can be no more than eight inches (20 cm) thick when folded.

“The weight of each piece must not exceed seven kg.”

Those travelling long haul with a cheaper ticket are granted much less, with just one item.

The guidelines add: “Economy Class customers are permitted one piece of carry-on baggage that should not exceed 22 by 15 by eight inches and must weigh no more than seven kg.”

Therefore they will have to take extra care when packing for trips away.

Yet with long-haul flights travellers often wanting to pack lots of things into their hand luggage to entertain them, this may be an issue.

Meanwhile, those travelling back from India also has to adhere to specific regulations which may affect how much they take in the cabin.

The advice added: “For customers boarding in India, you are allowed one piece of carry-on baggage.

“The size of the carry-on baggage may not exceed 115 cm (length + width + height).”

Meanwhile, the firm also has its own online baggage calculator to assist passengers who may be unsure.

Additionally, it was revealed last week how Emirates passengers bound for the US will soon be able to enjoy Wi-Fi, mobile service connectivity and Live TV broadcast, even when flying 40,000 feet over the North Pole and Arctic circle.

Emirates partner Inmarsat will soon solve this problem with the addition of two elliptical orbit satellites, thus providing coverage over the North Pole by 2022.

The new satellites will also provide Live TV broadcast on Emirates flights allowing customers to watch live news or sports over the polar region.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer said: “We are very pleased with this development, which will ensure Emirates continues to lead the industry in providing our customers a seamless inflight connectivity experience across geographies, on all of our flight routes.

“Over the years, we have worked closely with Inmarsat and our supply partners to continually raise the bar on inflight connectivity, and we look forward to further enhancing that experience, taking advantage of new technologies and infrastructure.”
