In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Limahl said he was “touched” by the Netflix series’ use of his song.

He said: “I have seen the clip when the two characters perform the song and I was very touched

“I didn’t know the show was so big, obviously I’m going to watch it now.

“This song seems to have gotten everybody really excited.

“I’m so happy that 35 years later, I’m still around to be able to enjoy this.”

Limahl also said his nephews Josh and Max first informed him the song was sung by Dustin (played by Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo) in Stranger Things season three.

He said: “They were so excited. Josh said, ‘Oh my God, uncle, they’re using your song in Stranger Things. I love that show!

“They’re both big fans of the show and it’s been so much fun watching their enthusiasm over the whole thing.”

WHAT HAPPPENED AT THE END OF STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3?

The Never-Ending Story was first released in 1984 when it reached number four in the UK singles charts and number 17 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

Over three decades later, the song has re-entered the iTunes top 100 at 94 as a result of its use in Stranger Things.

Limahl, once the lead singer of the 1980s band Kajagoogoo, said of this spike in popularity of The Never-Ending Story: “My God! It’s been very exciting to hear about all the new interest in the song

“Thirty-five years later, it’s reaching a whole new audience — it’s fantastic.”

WILL BRENNER RETURN TO STRANGER THINGS?

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo has also shared his experience singing the song on the show.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “It just took like a day to learn all the words. Definitely by the end of the day it was stuck in everyone’s heads.”

He admitted he was unfamiliar with the song prior to the series: “I just read it in the script.

“I didn’t know the song before; I wasn’t familiar with it.”
