Lewis Hamilton reacts to historic British Grand Prix win as he beats Valtteri Bottas

Hamilton won a record sixth British Grand Prix to further extend his race in the Driver’s championship, leapfrogging Jim Clark in the history books.

As he crossed the line, he said: “Ahhh what a day, I love you Silverstone thank you crowd for all coming out I appreciate everything and the opportunity to be a part of this!”

And straight after the race finished, he stopped to talk to fellow Brit and former F1 driver Jensen Button.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am to be here,” he said.

“You think you’d get used to something like that, but it feels like the first time.”

Hamilton then took the time to thank his team, as he marauds his way onto a sixth F1 world title.

Button then reminded Hamilton that he was now the outright record-holder of most wins at Silverstone.

Button said: Button reminds Hamilton: “You are a six time winner at a British Grand Prix…”

“Jeez. I couldn’t have done it without these guys [the fans] and my team.

“Everyone back at the factory and everyone is supportive of them.

“I value them massively and super proud to be a part of this.

“There’s nearly 2,000 people who make this possible and I’m just a chink in the chain and I’m super proud to be a part of this.”

Hamilton leapt out of his car after the race and high-fived members of his team with the Union Jack flag draped over his shoulders.

The 34-year-old started the day in second position, having lost out on pole to his Mercedes team-mate Valterri Bottas.

The next Grand Prix takes place in Germany in two weeks time, a race that Hamilton has won four times before.
