Xbox One FREE game download: You can play a true multiplayer classic for free

If you’ve got an Xbox One and a few hours to spare this weekend, then it’s worth taking advantage of Microsoft’s new free game deal.

As part of the latest Free Play Days weekend, Xbox Gold subscribers can download and play a bonafide multiplayer classic.

From now until midnight on July 15 (or 7.59am on July 16 if you live in the UK), Xbox One owners can play the full version of Rocket League for free.

The popular vehicular sports game sees teams compete to score the most goals in online or local multiplayer.

“Start your engines, prepare your Rocket Boosts, and don’t forget to bring your friends,” Microsoft explains.

“Rocket League, the hit sports/action hybrid and recipient of more than 150 Game of the Year nominations, will be available for free this weekend to Xbox Live Gold members who will have access to the full game during the Free Play Days period.”

You can find the free version on the Xbox Gold dashboard. Better yet, anybody who wants to purchase the full game can do so at the reduced price of £7.99.

Needless to say, any progress made during the free weekend will be carried over to the full release should you decide to make a purchase.

The free game download launches in the middle of the 80s-themed Radical Summer event.

“Also live right now is the totally tubular ’80s-themed in-game event, Radical Summer,” Microsoft explains.

“Earn Cassettes from playing Online Matches, which can be redeemed for unique in-game items inspired by ’80s pop culture. Jump into Casual, Competitive, or Extra modes to earn Cassettes, or try out the new limited-time mode, Spike Rush.”

Elsewhere, players can try the game’s basketball and ice hockey inspired game modes, or even unlock items with the Rocket Pass.

“Players will also earn items from Rocket Pass 3, Rocket League‘s timed progression system.

“Earn XP from Online Matches and by completing Weekly Challenges to earn in-game items that can only be found in this Rocket Pass.

“Progress through Rocket Pass for free or upgrade to Rocket Pass Premium to expand your item collection even further.”
