In an interview with Vulture, Ross Duffer said: “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out.”
Matt Duffer added: “We just have to keep adjusting the story. Though I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”
Ross continued: “They’re going to have to get the f*** out of this town. It’s ridiculous.”

However, it has even been hinted the show would go on beyond just four seasons, according to executive producer Shawn Levy.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said: “The truth is we’re definitely going four seasons and there’s very much the possibility of a fifth. Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely.”
And given the critical and viewer success of Stranger Things series three since it has been released, it’s very likely that the renewal could be announced soon.
Fans are certainly eager for another series after an explosive finale left them with many questions.

As season four of the show hasn’t officially been confirmed yet, there is no release date yet.
The first series was released on July 2016 with the second coming out just over a year later on October 2017.
But viewers had to a little longer for the third series, which was finally released on July 4, 2019.

What will happen on Stranger Things season 4?
Season four – if it gets the green light – will be picking up from that shocking end credits scene.
This was confirmed by Ross Duffer who hinted about he direction to Entertainment Weekly.
He said: “Assuming there’s a season four, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell and then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon is a tease. That’s obviously going to play a huge role in a potential season four.”
There has been much speculation about whether Hopper is still alive with star David Harbour also wading in.
The actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the post-credits team saying: “I’m very interested in that post-credits scene.”
