Wimbledon: Serena Williams is a force of nature like Rafael Nadal – Mary Carillo

Williams’ last Grand Slam title came at the 2017 Australian Open, which she won whilst being pregnant.

Since her return to action following the birth of her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, Williams has reached two major finals but hasn’t been able to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24.

But she is once again back in the Wimbledon semi-finals and is the hot favourite against Barbora Strycova.

In the men’s draw, Rafael Nadal is also into the last four of Wimbledon after a typically aggressive march through his section.

And Carillo, who works for NBC Sports, was full of praise for Williams and Nadal, favourably comparing their body language.

“I would compare her body language to Rafael Nadal’s,” she said on the BBC.

“They are a force of nature. They are their own weather systems out there.

“And you can’t help but feel that, watching this woman go after it the way she has.

“I know Patrick Mouratoglou has said she is very fit and she’s ready to do this. I’d love to see it. I’d love to see her at her best take another title and get rid of this whole idea of trying to meet Margeret Court’s record and get past that.

“She hasn’t won a tournament since she’s become a mother, it’s been two and a half years now. It would be something to see.”

Despite not winning a tournament since January 2017, Williams insists she is coping with the pressure on her shoulders.

“I definitely feel a lot more pressure as I got older,” she told reporters.

“Now that I am past older, I feel a little bit less pressure (smiling). I’m so serious.

“I definitely felt pressure, like not so much when I was younger, and then older, yes, yes, yes.

“Now it’s like I’ve done everything I need to do.

“Like, I’ve had a great career, so I don’t feel the pressure as much any more.”
