Man Utd make transfer enquiry as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes Harry Maguire alternative

Ed Woodward saw his opening offer for the club’s top defensive target turned down last week.

Leicester have told Manchester United that if they are willing to pay £90million, it will be enough to complete the deal.

That’s left United chiefs seeking different alternatives.

Maguire remains their priority but they are now reliant on the Foxes reducing their asking price.

According to Sky Italia, United have reignited their interest in Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

The report claims that they made an enquiry for the Serbian, who they have already previously made an offer for last January.

Milenkovic recently played at the Under 21 European Championships with Serbia and there were a number of top European scouts keeping tabs on his performances.

The 21-year-old already has a host of international experience having also played at the 2018 World Cup.

Speaking in Australia, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that the club will not be playing £90m for Maguire.

“We’re still in the market looking to do some business, but we’re patient,” the Norwegian said.

“We’re Manchester United. We don’t have to sell and don’t have to overpay.

“You have to have the right players at the right price.”

United have already smashed their defensive record this summer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The right-back sealed a £50m switch from Crystal Palace and joined up with his new team-mates to fly Down Under.

United are expected to sign a centre-back before next month’s deadline.

Solskjaer has brought in a new transfer strategy which involves targeting young, hungry and British players.
