The German Chancellor sat down at a ceremony to welcome Denmark’s prime minister on Thursday. This came a day after she shook visibly when standing to receive Finland’s Prime Minister, which was her third bout of shaking in three weeks. After the meeting on Wednesday, she said she was “working through” a bout of shaking that first occurred in mid-June, but insisted she was fine and that “just as it happened one day, so it will disappear”.
The 64-year-old, who has been in office since 2005, has no history of serious health issues.
Her office has given no explanation for the shaking episodes.
On Wednesday, she gave no details of any medical advice or treatment she has been given.
Medical experts have played down speculation the shaking episodes, saying there are multiple potential causes of tremor.
The Chancellor was first seen shaking uncontrollably on June 18.
This happened when she welcomed the new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky in Berlin.
But she said: “This process is clearly not finished yet but there is progress and I must live with this for a while but I am very well and you don’t need to worry about me.”
She also said the trembling occurred due to a lack of water.
A second shaking attack took place nine days later when she met the new Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Castle.
Mrs Merkel’s spokeswoman, Ulrike Demmer, was asked by German media why the government had not given any information on her health.
Ms Demmer said she had “nothing to add”.
The chancellor’s office has also dismissed concerns about her health.
