Who Man Utd fans should back after Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba bust-up

Manchester United duo Lingard and Pogba have caused a stir after footage of them appearing to clash was published by the club’s official Twitter account.

The two players are currently on the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of Australia as they aim to prove themselves to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the new Premier League season.

But, on just day two, the Manchester United duo have been seen clashing with Lingard appearing to have an issue with something Pogba said.

It was then left to Victor Lindelof to step in and it is currently unknown as to what happened in the aftermath of the incident.

Both players are not popular among United fans.

Lingard angered supporters last month with a video of him shouting ‘beans, beans, beans’ at Marcus Rashford, while also showing a friend simulating a sex act with a pillow.

Pogba, meanwhile, wants to leave for Real Madrid.

The France international has gone public with his desire to leave while his outspoken agent, Mino Raiola, said last week: “Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are.

“Everyone within the club, from the manager to the owner, knows Paul’s wishes.”

As a result of Pogba’s public outburst and Raiola’s comments, United fans have to choose Lingard’s side.

Sure, the England international is perhaps too immature and his social media activity can be cringe-worthy at times.

But, make no mistake about it, Lingard cares. He is a boyhood United fan and loves strutting his stuff at Old Trafford.

Pogba does care, despite what people say. But the manner in which he conducts himself is wrong.

Like Lingard, he was a product of the United academy. They grew up together, famously starring in the club’s FA Youth Cup final triumph in 2011.

But Pogba, unlike his team-mate, never loved the club enough to stay. When he thought Sir Alex Ferguson was disrespecting him, his agent ensured he leave for Juventus on a free.

Pogba was always going to make it at United had he stayed. Ferguson was aware of his talent, even if Ravel Morrison was rated higher.

But he chose to leave. He wasn’t up for the challenge then and now, three years on from his United return, he doesn’t look up to it either.

Lingard, though, is.

The United star is braver and more-courageous than some think. Injuries prevented him from kicking on as a youngster.

But when he could have left the Red Devils, he stayed put. Loan spells at the likes of Birmingham and Derby in the Championship were required for him to revolve.

Lingard is a character and so too is Pogba. There’s nothing wrong with that.

But when United fans are already baying for blood, before a ball has been kicked, their bust-up is a saga the club should avoid. If Pogba really wants out, it’s time to let him go for the good of the team.
