Debbie McGee: Strictly star reveals big news in surprising move 'I’m a lucky person’

Debbie McGee, 60, recently took a short break from her Sunday show on BBC Radio Berkshire but revealed she has been involved in a new project, which has been quietly kept under wraps. The Strictly Come Dancing finalist spilled she is currently working on a brand new documentary, but there is no word yet on its release date. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the radio DJ said: “At the minute I’m just in the middle of making a little documentary for BBC Newcastle which is about a children’s author from the 1940s and 1950s. “It’s a great life story and I’m really fascinated by it. I’m just a very lucky person.”

Debbie has also taken part in the Channel 4 show Kirstie’s Celebrity Craftmasters alongside Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson, 26 which airs today.

The pair will go head-to-head as they face each other in a crafting challenge.

Asked whether competing against Sam brought out her winning streak, the Strictly finalist divulged: “I’m very competitive. But I’m not heartbroken if I don’t win. Because if I don’t win, I often think what’s meant to be will be.

“Unless there’s a big cash prize then it might hurt a bit more. Which wasn’t the case here but I am competitive. I want to do my best and I want to do well.”

The former magician’s assistant said despite having to compete with the Made in Chelsea reality star, the pair got on well during the show.

She spilled: “With Sam, we come from different backgrounds, our age difference is huge and we got on like a house on fire.

“We had such fun and we took the mickey out of each other along the way. So I think the show will be really entertaining.”

Elsewhere, Debbie recently spoke out about Strictly Come Dancing judge, Darcey Bussell, who quit the BBC series earlier this year.

Speaking about her exit, she mused: “It’s sad. I just think she brings a very special element to that show which I think will be hard to replace.

“You know she is Dame Darcey Bussell for a reason and there isn’t another one.”

Asked if she would consider the role on the judging panel, Debbie said: “Absolutely. I’d love to be a judge on that programme.

“Unfortunately I’m not Dame Debbie though.”

The Strictly Come Dancing star made it to the finals of the BBC series alongside her partner Giovanni Pernice, 28, but lost out to the coveted Glitterball trophy to Holby City star Joe McFadden,43, and Katya Jones, 30.

Debbie is currently featuring on Kirstie Allsopp’s Celebrity Craftmasters, which airs everyday this week.

Kirstie’s Celebrity Craft Masters airs on Channel 4 today at 5pm
