Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host flustered as he gets Carol Kirkwood's name wrong

Dan Walker, 42, and Louise Minchin, 50, took their usual places on the BBC Breakfast sofa to update viewers on the latest news stories. Naturally, one of this week’s biggest talking points was Wimbledon 2019, which sees the continuation of the Women’s Singles with the round of 16 clashes today. BBC favourites Carol Kirkwood, 57, and Sally Nugent, 47, presented the weather and sport updates from the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club to mark the occasion. Joining Dan and Louise via video link from the Court One, Sally joked she and Carol might hide in the stands in order to watch today’s matches, quipping: “Do you think they’ll notice us?”

“Yes!” Dan announced decisively, laughing.

“No, no, no, no,” Louise insisted. “Just go and hide behind one of those green seats, you’ll be fine!”

Chuckling, Dan replied: “I’d love to see Sarol and Cally — Carol, did I say that the wrong way?”

Giggling at her co-host mixing up their colleagues’ names, Louise exclaimed: “Sarol and Cally? Who are they?!”

“Carol and Sally,” he clarified, emphasising the consonants as he made sure to get it right the second time around, “getting frogmarched out of the one court about three o’clock this afternoon.”

Moving on from his gaffe, Louise simply laughed: “Very unlikely.”

Elsewhere in the show, Dan Walker was horrified when Carol Kirkwood “dropped the F-bomb” during her weather report from Wimbledon.

During her forecast, the meteorologist warned could be some bad weather headed for the UK.

“Today is one of those days where Carol is doing the weather at Wimbledon again,” Dan introduced his co-star. “And did you hear Carol earlier mention the F-word?”

Louise looked shocked, glancing from the camera to her presenting partner, appearing unsure of what to say.

“Frost!” Dan exclaimed. “Not that F-word! She dropped the F-bomb on us this morning.”

Louise breathed a sigh of relief, laughing: “Genuine shock on my face…”

“Oh my goodness, Dan,” Carol said. “The things you say!”

Reporting the forecast, she said parts of Scotland and northern England has seen frost overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing.

Luckily for Wimbledon fans, today looks set to be warn and dry with cloud cover and some sunny spells.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
