On Tuesday, the follow-up to Avengers Endgame was released – a film that acts as something of an epilogue to the MCU Infinity Saga. And it turns out that Spider-Man Far From Home has broken an Avengers Endgame box office record already. When the Marvel epic released a few months ago, it made $25.3 million on its first Wednesday in US cinemas; a figure that has now been surpassed by Spider-Man Far From Home with $27 million. This new record is the highest midweek takings of any MCU movie to date.
While an impressive achievement, it’s worth pointing out that Spider-Man Far From Home released on a Tuesday, so its second day in cinemas was always going to be a big taking.
Whereas Avengers Endgame came out on a Friday, meaning its first Wednesday was six days after the film’s release.
And that’s well after the Marvel epic had already taken $1.2 billion in the biggest opening weekend of all time.
This is hardly surprising considering the huge hype and fear of spoilers attracting fans in their droves to sold-out screenings.
This weekend the Avengers Endgame re-release gets its international release.
India, which has a huge Marvel fan base, is getting the extended version of the film in limited screens.
According to BookMyShow’s Ashish Saksena: “This week we are confident the fandom will take over, yet again!”
Avengers Endgame re-release and Spider-Man Far From Home are in cinemas now.
