What Manchester United have told Dean Henderson about David De Gea

Manchester United star Henderson wants to leave the club for Sheffield United on loan after a successful spell at the Premier League new boys last season.

The youngster is viewed as the club’s future No 1, particularly with De Gea’s future so uncertain.

Manchester United want the Spain international to stay with reports suggesting they had offered him a bumper new contract earlier this month.

Juventus and PSG are circling, though, and De Gea is yet to put pen to paper on an extension.

And the Manchester Evening News say United have told Henderson that, until De Gea’s position becomes clear, he will be staying put.

The 22-year-old also has a year left on his deal, but the Red Devils are able to trigger a one-year extension.

While Henderson wants to leave United on loan, he does not want to leave the club permanently.

He is supposedly confident of becoming the club’s No 1 when De Gea either leaves or begins to wane.

And the 22-year-old will resist the urge to leave on loan if he is told he will be the club’s main shot-stopper.

His route to the first-team is tricky, however.

United are still determined to keep De Gea, even if Ed Woodward is prepared to risk losing the goalkeeper for nothing.

Then there’s Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira too.

Romero has been a good asset for United since signing in 2015, starring in EFL Cup and Europa League triumphs.

And Pereira was tipped to be the best Portuguese goalkeeper of his generation by Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile, United star Henderson recently expressed a belief that his time at Sheffield United had made him better.

“Playing for Sheffield United last season helped me massively,” he said.

“Playing week in, week out, getting used to big occasions, playing in big games with loads riding on them.

“The Steel City derby, Leeds away, games like that can only benefit me. They are like Premier League occasions.”
