Trump humiliated as he claims US ‘took over airports’ 122 years before they existed

The President appeared to be talking about the battle of Yorktown, which took place in 1781 during the American War of Independence. It wasn’t until 1903 that the first manned flight took place in North Carolina. Trump made a speech during the ’Salute to America’ parade, which also featured tanks and a flyover by the US airforce.

Referring to the US army Trump said: “The continental army suffered a bitter winter at Valley Forge, found glory across the water of Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis in Yorktown.

“Our army manned the ramparts. It took over the airports. It did everything it had to do.

“At Fort McHenry, under the rockets’ red glare, it had nothing but victory.”

General Cornwallis was the British commander at Yorktown who surrendered to US leader George Washington.
