Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker TITLE explained: 'It makes sense in this FINAL scene'

Does it refer to some kind of galaxy-wide new movement? Is it a new breed of Jedi? Is it simply the rebirth of hope inspired by Luke’s sacrifice in The Last Jedi? Does it actually mean Luke (or even Anakin) Skywalker will rise from the dead? One person definitely knows because she stars in the film and knows exactly how it ends.

Daisy Ridley will return as Rey (surname to be determined) for her final outing in Episode IX.

She has already confirmed that the question of Rey’s parentage will be finally and properly addressed in the movie.

In a new podcast she happily spoke at length and in tantalising detail about The Rise of Skywalker, including what that enigmatic title actually means when the host asked her if it referred to the popular theory of some kind of spiritual and inspiring movement.

Ridley said: “Ok. I mean yeah, that sounds like a great thing. JJ (Abrams) did say as much. He said it represents a lot of things. He told me the title.. and I was like ‘Oh, OK.’ But even John (Boyega) and people were like ‘Oh!’

“It wasn’t what I was expecting but I would agree it represents a lot of things… It think it will be one of those things and it will be the last few lines of the film and people will be like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.'”

The actress also revealed how it felt like fate winning the role.

Ridley said: “I was walking down the street with a make-up artist and a stylist from a photo shoot who are now my friends and open of them went, ‘Oh they’re doing a new Star Wars film’ and my whole body went tingly and I was like ‘I think I’m going to get a part in this film.’ I’m not kidding.

“This was early in the year. I called my agent. I felt like the universe was pushing me forward.”
