Federer* 6-1 4-4 Clarke

Federer with another composed game on serve. Who’s going to be the first to break?

Federer 6-1 3-4 Clarke*

We continue the back and forth in this set. Clarke will be growing more and more in confidence the more he holds on to serve. Still no break point opportunities in this set for either player.

Federer* 6-1 3-3 Clarke

Another comfortable service game for Federer there. Clarke biding his time to find the right moment, but the Swiss star isn’t giving many chances away.

Federer 6-1 2-3 Clarke*

Clarke must be wondering how on earth Federer is getting to some of these shots. Still, the Brit holds with no break in the set yet.

Federer* 6-1 2-2 Clarke

Couple chances missed by Clarke in this game too, but Federer sees out another love-service game.

Federer 6-1 1-2 Clarke*

That will be a huge boost too Clarke. Two strong service games. A fourth double fault a minor blip, but he’s looking more confident.

Federer* 6-1 1-1 Clarke

No chances for Clarke in that game. He’s not going to get many on a Federer service game, but he has to take some. Crucial set for the Brit.

Federer 6-1 0-1 Clarke*

Much better start from the Brit here. Two great winners to go 30-0 up. A fast-paced rally ensues in a battle on the baseline with Federer coming out on top. Clarke holds though and he heads back to his chair pumping his first.

ROGER FEDERER TAKES THE FIRST SET

Federer* 6-1 Clarke

The first ‘come on’ from Clarke after an excellent winner of his own for a mini break. But Federer expertly sees out his own service game to take the first set.

Federer 5-1 Clarke*

Clarke can’t seem to shake Federer on his serve and after being 40-15 up, the Brit falls back to deuce, giving Federer another chance to break.

Magnificent forehand winner out of the reach from Federer to move back to deuce. Next a backhand in the same corner for his second break point of the set. Clarke saves but, despite some cunning defence, Federer hits another winner before taking his second break point opportunity.

Federer* 4-1 Clarke

Mini break at 15-30 for Clarke here with a delicate shot that fooled Federer. And a wayward forehand from the eight-time Wimbledon champion hands Clarke two break points.

Not breaking sweat though Federer saves both. And wins the next two points to remain a break up. More encouragement for Clarke though.

Federer 3-1 Clarke*

Feel like Clarke’s going to need something big to get him going against Federer here. A nice drop-shot volley at the net is a good start. Certainly more Clarke chants than Federer so far. A long backhand return from Federer hands Clarke his first game of the match.

Federer* 3-0 Clarke

Odd moment at the net for Federer as he drops a simple volley into the net. A shrug of the shoulders as he quickly brushes it off to move into a commanding lead in the first set.

Federer 2-0 Clarke*

Rousing reception for Clarke on his first service game. Even bigger cheer as he takes the first point. Back-to-back double faults and a long forehand take it to deuce. Brilliant play from Clarke to stay in the rally on the following point to bring up advantage but misses next with a volley at the net. A third double fault gives Federer break point and Clarke sends one long to give Federer a 2-0 lead. We’ll put that one down to nerves shall we?

Federer* 1-0 Clarke

A trademark deep serve and across the court forehand winner to kick things for Federer. Clarke unable to get a rally going as the Swiss takes a love-service game.

2:50pm: Nearly done with the warm-ups here. We’re about to get underway!

2:45pm: Kvitova has now won her match, Federer soon to come out and Court One is packing out for this one. Could be interesting to see how the crowd sides on this one.

Federer notoriously the best supported player on the tour in nearly every tournament, but Brits love seeing one of their own – especially in an upset!

2:35pm: Kvitova is one game away from winning her second round match, meaning Federer won’t be long now!

2:10pm: Good afternoon and welcome to Day Four of Wimbledon, with a number of top quality matches on offer throughout the day. One pick of the bunch is this second round tie between Federer and Clarke.

The Brit hopeful pulled off a stunning win over American Noah Rubin in the first round for his first ever victory at a Grand Slam. And the 20-year-old now takes centre stage against eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer this afternoon in what promises to be a crowd-pleasing match.

Federer looked slightly rusty in the opening exchanges of his first round match against Lloyd Harris but soon began exerting his dominance to comfortably win.

The match will follow the conclusion of Petra Kvitova vs Kristina Mladenovic. Stay tuned as we build up to Federer vs Clarke.
