Piers Morgan makes scathing jibe about Love Island's Michael 'most hated man' comment

Piers Morgan, 54, proved his views on Love Island hadn’t changed after a Michael Griffith fan account likened the 2019 contestant to him on Twitter. The account, which has 19,000 followers, joked about the backlash to the 27-year-old firefighter’s recent behaviour on the ITV2 dating show last night, tweeting: “Takeaways from tonight: It’s b****y hard running an account for the UK’s most hated man. @piersmorgan how do you do it?” they quipped. The Good Morning Britain host soon replied, making a scathing jibe about the Love Island fans running the page in view of his own 6.7 million followers.

“Who showed you how to spell all this?” he scoffed lightheartedly.

It’s not the first time Piers has mocked those Love Island over intelligence or lack thereof.

Having ranted about last year’s stars on GMB, calling them the “most stupid they’ve ever had”, he said of this series’ line-up: “If you want to kill brain cells you know what to do — tune in and watch this lot of dimwits prancing about saying stupid things about each other.”

Meanwhile, many Twitter users jumped to Michael’s defence following his account calling him “the most hated man” in the UK, with some insisting he hadn’t done anything wrong by ditching Amber Gill, 20, for Joanna Chimonides, 22.

“It’s really agonising to watch how Amber can’t have a serious conversation,” one commented. “I totally get Michael, it’s so difficult to talk to her!”

“I don’t hate him,” another said. “He followed his heart it’s why they are there.”

“He’s not the most hated man!” a third agreed. “He did the right thing by going with his gut. Love Michael.”

Others, however, took the opportunity to blast Michael’s behaviour, with one saying: “What a weak excuse for a man Michael is.

“A**hole of the highest order. I think he proved the point that he’s the children(sic) one, who has no idea how to treat people.”

“He was the immature one tonight, Amber handled that really well,” a third chipped in.

Tonight, Love Island viewers will get to see the fallout from the dramatic recoupling when ITV2 air whats looks set to be a very awkward “catch up” between Amber and Joanna.

Initially, they both sit in stony silence, before Joanna bravely initiates a conversation, saying: “I’m going to be the bigger person…

“The bigger person?” the fiery Amber interjects. “What have I done?”

Michael’s new flame then proceeds to insist she doesn’t want there to be tension in the villa and wants to leave the meeting on good terms with Amber.

But will the reconciliation work out? And what’s in store for Michael when Amber gets back to the villa?

Love Island 2019 continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
