Neymar: PSG set HUGE transfer price – but Barcelona are not willing to pay it

Neymar could sensationally return to Barcelona this transfer window, with the La Liga giants eager to land the player from PSG.

Two years ago, the Brazil international caused outrage over in Catalonia by choosing to leave the club for a new challenge in the Parc des Princes.

Neymar had been unhappy at Barcelona in the months previously. After starring in the famous 6-1 victory over PSG in the Champions League, he was furious to wake up the next day and instead see Lionel Messi’s face splashed across the Spanish newspapers.

But he feels he was wrong to leave and now wants a stunning return.

Barcelona are keen to make that happen, despite their interest in landing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

Yet Spanish newspaper Marca say they are currently unwilling to meet PSG’s huge asking price.

Two years ago, the Brazil international cost a world-record £200million – obliterating the money previously paid by Manchester United on Paul Pogba.

But PSG are supposedly want more if they are to let their talisman depart.

Marca say the Ligue 1 titans are currently seeking a massive £225m to let Neymar go.

However, Barcelona would instead prefer to spend £180m and are currently refusing to budge.

What that leads to remains to be seen.

But Barcelona are hopeful they can lure both Neymar and Griezmann to the Nou Camp this transfer window.

Spanish expert Graham Hunter, meanwhile, recently claimed Barcelona were trying four things to secure Neymar’s signature.

“By forcing a powerful Coutinho valuation on PSG, dropping the near €90m purchase of Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt (re-deploying the cash they’d earmarked), totting up another €100m in squad-player sales and imposing the appropriate wage-agreement on Neymar, Barcelona are trying to have their cake and eat it,” he said.

“If, and that’s a big if, the Camp Nou club could pull off this truly remarkable, and hellishly risky, deal would Messi, Neymar, Suarez and Griezmann constitute the greatest attacking quartet any club in history has possessed at one time?

“I can assure you that marketable slogan itself would be sufficiently attractive to some club presidents or board members to press the button on the deals and damn the consequences.

“Ego and popularity contests play a far bigger role in football club decision-making, masquerading as strategy, than most would like to admit.”

Hunter also reckons Barcelona CAN pull off the signings of Griezmann and Neymar, adding: “Barcelona want this remarkable double deal to take place,” he added.

“They can probably pull it off. In fact that’s the slight favourite in the betting.

“It’ll hamstring them financially, and it’s a direct kick in the teeth to what was once Barcelona’s football philosophy, but it’ll fixate world attention on Camp Nou once more, it’ll charm both current and potential sponsors and, should the players click on the pitch, it’s feasible that the Treble could finally be re-achieved.

“Tell me seriously, what would you try to do in the club’s position?”
