Spider-Man Far From Home end credits scenes shock: [SPOILER] is BACK – what does it mean?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The new MCU movie is the epilogue of the Infinity Saga, which came to a dramatic climax in Avengers: Endgame back in April.

There are two end credits scenes on this film – returning to Marvel tradition after Endgame’s zero – and the first one shows a huge comeback.

Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson, played by JK Simmons, is back.

Simmons – who attended the Far From Home premiere last week – had previously not been seen in the MCU, and this marks his first appearance.

But he did, of course, play the character in 2002’s Spider-Man, 2004, Spider-Man 2 and 2007’s Spider-Man 3 – the Tobey Maguire era.

In his brief role here, he tells the world that Parker is Spider-Man, leaving the web-slinger – played by Tom Holland – shocked.

So what does this mean going forward? Is it just a brief cameo for Simmons, or a fully-fledged arrival into the MCU?

We’ll have to wait a little longer for the answers, but Simmons is also waiting to get to work on a big role in the DCEU – as Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon.

He said earlier this year that he’s hoping to play that character again, after only being seen very briefly in Justice League.

“I know nothing,” he told ET. “I know that I signed up to do three movies, potentially, and I hope there are gonna be two more.

“It has been in and around and through, whether it be Batman or Justice League or another Suicide Squad, or where Commissioner Gordon might end up appearing again, I’m open to it.

“I’m not sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring in the meantime, but I hope there’s more of that in the future.”

It’s also going to be open for debate whether Simmons’ arrival in Spider-Man: Far From Home hints at more crossovers between the previous iterations of Spidey; played by Maguire and Andrew Garfield in live action.

Interestingly the second, post-credits scene on Far From Home also reveals a comeback: Ben Mendelsohn as Talos.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is out now.
