On the eve of Djokovic’s opening match, the world No 1 has added 2001 champion Goran Ivanisevic to his coaching team.
“I am grateful to have Goran on my side of the net. We have agreed to collaborate at Wimbledon and hopefully many more in the future,” Djokovic said.
“I am thankful to Marian for supporting the idea to invite Goran and strengthen our team ahead of this important tournament.”
“I have grown up watching and supporting Goran. Niki Pilic allowed me to be Goran’s ball boy during his preparation in Niki’s academy for the famous Wimbledon trophy in 2001.
“That was a dream come true for a young tennis player who looked up to Goran. Now we get to join forces in the quest here in London.”
Djokovic opted not to play a warm-up tournament before Wimbledon but is aware of the threat posed by Kohlschreiber.
“Kohlschreiber, my first-round opponent, is a very good, quality tennis player on grass, or any surface for that matter,” he said.
“He won against me earlier this year in Indian Wells. You need the right intensity. You need to kind of be in the moment, focus only on the next challenge.”
