Galaxy Watch and Gear S3 rival as new Samsung wearable may have just leaked

Galaxy Watch and Gear S3 are two wearables from Samsung that released in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

Both products attempt to provide a wealth of fitness features in addition to typical smartwatch functionality such as the ability to view phone notifications at a glance.

To be expected from a newer product, the Galaxy Watch comes with more features than the Gear S3 and is also available in a number of different styles, too.

Galaxy Watch comes in 42 millimetre and 46 millimetre case sizes, the former of which comes in two colours.

The Samsung wearable prides itself on delivering exhaustive fitness tools and great battery life.

While the Galaxy Watch and Gear S3 remain incredibly appealing options for anyone looking to pick up a smartwatch, it seems both could soon be rivalled by a new wearable from Samsung.

Back in May, SamMobile claimed the South Korean tech giant was working on a new smartwatch that was suggested to be a fully fledged device and not one specifically targeting fitness fanatics.

Since the initial report, the outlet has since posted claimed images of the new device and has declared the product will succeed the Galaxy Watch Active, at least in name.

Aptly titled the Galaxy Watch Active 2, the device was still suggested to be more than just “another fitness-focused watch”.

The hardware was shown looking very similar to the current Galaxy Watch Active that sports an elegant but lightweight design.

Samsung’s alleged wearable was stated to come in 40 millimetre and 44 millimetre case sizes unlike the current Watch Active that is only available in a single 40 millimetre variant.

While the design of the Active 2 was noted to be very reminiscent of its predecessor, SamMobile was eager to point out a few subtle design changes it could make.

The hardware’s home and power buttons were stated to have round and rectangular shapes respectively; the former also touted a red ring around itself, the purpose of which is currently unknown.

Just like the original Watch Active, Samsung’s signature rotating bezel was not shown to be present.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 was declared to come in an LTE variant and a Wi-Fi model, the former of which was said to boast a 340mAh battery while the latter was alleged to have a smaller 237mAh cell.

Both were declared to run a new version of Samsung’s One UI software that could boast fresh features.

No pricing or release details of the hardware were discussed.

It is worth noting the existing Galaxy Watch Active launched alongside the Galaxy S10 series back in February.
